Hidden gems: cheap eats near Hongdae

I've been living near Hongdae for 3 months now and I've found some amazing cheap food spots that most tourists don't know about. Sharing my favorites!

Kimbap Cheonguk (김밥천국) - Yes, the chain is everywhere, but the one near Exit 3 has the best tuna kimbap for 3,500 KRW. Perfect quick lunch.

The unnamed jjigae place on the small street behind Hongdae Playground - they serve incredible kimchi jjigae for 6,000 KRW with unlimited rice and side dishes. Always packed with locals, which is a good sign.

Issac Toast near the university gate - their special toast with egg and ham is only 3,200 KRW and it's the best breakfast you can get. Way better than the convenience store sandwiches.

Pro tip: avoid the main street restaurants. Walk 2-3 blocks into the side streets and the prices drop dramatically while the food quality actually gets better. The best Korean food is always in the small, no-frills places!
