Learning Korean through K-dramas: my method

Controversial opinion: watching K-dramas is a legitimate study method IF you do it right. Here's the technique that helped me go from barely understanding anything to catching about 60% of dialogue.
Phase 1 (Week 1-2): Watch with English subtitles. Pick a drama with everyday conversations, not historical dramas. I recommend "Reply 1988" or "Weightlifting Fairy." Enjoy it and get familiar with the rhythm of Korean.
Phase 2 (Week 3-4): Switch to Korean subtitles (한글 자막). Pause frequently. Write down phrases you hear. This is where the real learning happens - you start connecting sounds to written Korean.
Phase 3 (Week 5+): Watch without subtitles. Don't worry about understanding everything. Focus on words and phrases you recognize. Re-watch scenes you didn't understand with subtitles after.
My favorite phrases I learned from dramas: "진짜?" (really?), "대박" (awesome), "어떡해" (what do I do), "괜찮아" (it's okay). These come up in daily conversation ALL the time.
Combine this with your regular classes and language exchange, and you'll be amazed at how fast your listening improves!
