The ARC process explained step by step

Getting my Alien Registration Card (ARC) was confusing, so I'm writing this guide so others don't have to go through the same stress.

Step 1: Book an appointment. Go to the HiKorea website (hikorea.go.kr) and create an account. Book a visit to your nearest immigration office. Do this ASAP after arriving - slots fill up fast!

Step 2: Prepare documents. You need: passport, passport photo (3.5x4.5cm), application form (download from HiKorea), enrollment certificate from your school, proof of address (housing contract or dormitory confirmation), and 30,000 KRW fee.

Step 3: Visit immigration. Arrive early! I went to the Seoul Immigration Office in Mokdong. Take a number, wait (bring a book), submit documents, give fingerprints, done.

Step 4: Wait. They said 2-3 weeks but mine took exactly 10 days. You'll get a text message when it's ready, then go pick it up.

Pro tip: Once you have your ARC, immediately go open a bank account and get a proper phone plan. Your life in Korea becomes 10x easier with this card!
