TOPIK writing section tips from a Level 5 scorer

The writing section (쓰기) is what most people struggle with on TOPIK II. I scored 71/100 on writing (Level 5 range) and here are my tips.

Question 51-52 (fill in the blank): These are the easiest points. Practice grammar patterns like -(으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라, -기 때문에, -(으)므로. They love these connectors. Always check your 존댓말 levels.

Question 53 (graph/chart description): Memorize templates. Start with "위 그래프/표는 ~에 대한 것이다." Then describe trends using: 증가하다, 감소하다, 변화가 없다, ~에 비해, ~(으)ㄴ 반면에. Practice writing these descriptions in exactly 200-300 characters.

Question 54 (essay): Use a clear structure: 서론 (introduction), 본론 (2 body paragraphs), 결론 (conclusion). Each paragraph should have a topic sentence + supporting detail + example. Aim for 600-700 characters.

Time management: Spend 5 min on Q51-52, 15 min on Q53, and 30 min on Q54. Don't waste time on perfection - getting ideas down clearly is more important than fancy vocabulary.
